Ahhh toddlers...
Coming from a Momma who had a very “spirited”, unpredictable little toddler who still wears his heart on his sleeve - I absolutely get how tricky some days can be and there is just sometime nothing you can do, but go with the flow.
It can be very daunting to book something like a photo session, when you’re worried about how your child is going to react that day.
My sessions are completely child lead - I give them space, we can take it slow, embrace cuddles, stop for snacks and jump off the same sand dune 17 times if we need to…
As long as the kids are enjoying themselves, we will get the best, natural smiles and amazing moments.
You obviously know them best, but sometimes a bit of direction from someone other than a parent can be the golden ticket to compliance. I’m always happy to
Once they are settled and I’ve gained their trust a little I have lots of fun, age appropriate games and prompts for little ones that they’ll love and also create beautiful movement and happy faces.
Top tips for toddler sessions
Before your session:
- Choosing your location based on where your kids LOVE to be and that is safe for free-range play
- Prepare your toddler (lots of info in my guides about this)
- Make sure they’re well rested - easier said than done, I know
On the Day:
- Arrive with lots of time to spare (rushing can create a fraught environment and a stressed child)
- Bring spare clothes! Toddlers love heading straight for the water… let them if you’re happy with that, but be prepared.
- Bring mess-free snacks to boost energy (or a little bit of bribery if it comes to it)
- Go with the flow, play with your kids, enjoy their company during this rare undivided time with them…
I honestly love photographing toddlers, the more energy and chaos, the more bloody wonderful your photos will be - promise!
